To “Dell” With It! Part 2

What I thought would be a routine order of computer equipment has been a sluggish wait in eCommerce Limbo.

I’ve used Dell and recommended Dell equipment since I was first introduced to their company as an intern doing system adminstration work for the Air & Space Museum back in ’92…

It amazes me that it now takes over a month to assemble one of these things and get it shipped out to the consumer. Apparently it was in stock when I ordered it and now it’s stuck in manufucturing?! What happened to the just in time manufacturing process that Dell revolutionized and streamlined!? If you are going to push a marketing campaign to millions of consumers you best be sure to get your inventory in order to meet the demand.

Forget about calling Dell customer support, they’ll slam you on hold and force you to listen to Liberace. The forum group is pretty active with people that are in the same boat – Dell’s Bitch Forum.

With turn around time this sluggish, a business can not wait for delays like this. Fortunately this product isn’t as critical as a downed server or a presentation laptop but this sort of behavior is totally unacceptable and cast increased doubt on Dell’s ability to meet customer demand and satisfaction.

I love how nice they are on the automated emails: “We hope you will think of Dell for all of your future computing needs.Sincerely,Dell Online Sales” At this rate I doubt I will ever order from Dell again for any of my computing needs.
