{"id":175,"date":"2005-08-08T14:33:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-08T14:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/advancedmedialab.wordpress.com\/2005\/08\/08\/112378663869003653\/"},"modified":"2005-08-08T14:33:00","modified_gmt":"2005-08-08T14:33:00","slug":"112378663869003653","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onebitpixel.com\/aml\/?p=175","title":{"rendered":"Disruptive Technology."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Disruptive Technology.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn our final presentation for <a href=\"http:\/\/tdonline.ncsu.edu\/people\/odriscoll.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tony O&#8217;Driscoll&#8217;s<\/a> Management of Technology class I proposed a &#8220;What If&#8230;&#8221; scenario that showed what could happen if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pulte.com\" target=\"_blank\">Pulte Homes<\/a> were to get into the Energy Business to &#8220;compete&#8221; with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.progress-energy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Progress Energy<\/a>. Pulte Homes is a family home builder that managed to churn out 33,000 homes back in 2003&#8230; What if Pulte Homes decided to install and manage a series of solar panel energy\/battery banks or fuel cells in every home they built (408,000 so far&#8230;) that was connected to the grid, generating energy for the home and selling it back into the network. Apparently it wasn&#8217;t that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halfbakery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">half-baked of an idea<\/a> since another homebuilder on the west coast decided to throw up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/8852127\/site\/newsweek\" target=\"_blank\">subdivision of 95 &#8220;zero-energy homes&#8221;<\/a>. Granted, it&#8217;s a far cry from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.uiuc.edu\/news\/05\/0418supergrid.html\" target=\"_blank\">new supergrid <\/a>but it&#8217;s an interesting move that was considered a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/pov\/pov2005\/theselfmademan\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\">fringe idea from the early 70&#8217;s<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disruptive Technology.
