Tracks + Requirements
Degree tracks and requirements:
Track 1: 48 credit hours (2 years going full time)
Applicants with undergraduate degrees in specific concentration area and showing extraordinary accomplishment in the area may be admitted to Track 1. This is the fastest track through the program and presupposes considerable technical and conceptual readiness. No undergraduate remedial work will be required, although may be recommended upon commencement of the program.
Track 2: 60 credit hours (2.5 years going full time)
Applicants demonstrating some experience and accomplishment in the concentration area before application, and/or with undergraduate degrees and strong work in the concentration area, may be admitted on Track 2. Students on Track 2 will take at least one semester (12 credit hours) of undergraduate work in the first semester, then sit an Advancement Review to be allowed to progress to graduate level work. Students in Track 2 should expect to spend a minimum of 2.5 years (5 semesters) in the program.
Track 3: 72 credit hours (3 years going full time)
All incoming graduate students accepted into the Track 3 program and should expect to be in residence for 3 full years (6 semesters), going full time (total of 60 to 72 credit hours). Once in the program all Track 3 students will take 2 semesters of undergraduate work in the concentration (21-24 credit hours) to improve skills, experiment, and gain confidence in the medium. Each Track 3 student will sit an Advancement Review in the second semester, conferring the right to begin graduate level courses. Students with strong progress in the first semester may petition the faculty for an early Advancement Review undergraduate course work.
Students with NO art and design academic background, but with high interest, motivation, and other important life experiences and skills will be encouraged to apply, but should expect to be committed to at least 3.5 to 4 years of study (up to 2 years of undergraduate preparatory work before the Advancement Review). Like any change in discipline, it takes time to lay the groundwork for a career shift.
• Full-time study is figured at 12 credit hours per semester.
• Part-time students are welcomed but must complete the degree within 6 years from the time of the first class.
• Please contact us for copies of the curriculum displays for any of the tracks in either of the concentrations.
